We are looking for a new Trustee to bring their skills and experience to The Key.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a meaningful role in shaping the future of The Key, ensuring strong governance, strategic direction and long-term sustainability.

Why This Role Matters:

Young people in our region face significant challenges, including poverty, reduced access to youth services, mental health pressures and high youth unemployment. Strong governance and leadership are essential to ensuring young people continue to have access to empowering, confidence-building opportunities.

As a Trustee, you will help provide oversight, accountability and strategic guidance, ensuring we remain focused, compliant and ambitious in our mission.

Our volunteer trustees play a pivotal role in ensuring the organisation is well governed and aligned with its strategic priorities. Trustees work collaboratively with the Chair, CEO and fellow board members to provide support, challenge and insight.

We are particularly interested in individuals who currently work with young people or within organisations that support them. Previous board experience is not essential, as a full and supportive induction is provided.

As a Trustee, you will:

Provide strategic oversight and independent judgement
Support and challenge senior leadership constructively
Ensure compliance with charity governance and legislation
Contribute to long-term sustainability and growth
Act in the best interests of the organisation and the young people it serves

The expected time commitment is approximately 4–5 hours per quarter. Trustees attend four board meetings per year (a mix of in-person and online), an annual strategic Away Day and the AGM.

Trustees serve an initial three-year term and may claim out-of-pocket travel expenses.
