Statement on recent unrest and events
We are deeply disturbed by the recent outbreaks of violence, racism, unrest and hate in our region and across the country. For over thirty years, we have been part of a committed sector supporting our community and celebrating the diversity that enriches the North East. It is devastating to witness events towards the vibrancy that makes our society strong.
At The Key, we remain steadfast in our commitment to young people and empowering them to use their voices and ideas to create positive change and community cohesion. We see young people deliver this daily and know that recent events do not reflect the society we know. There is no room for hate, racism, or division.
We stand in solidarity with the affected communities and extend our support to those who have been victims of hate and the groups working tirelessly to rebuild and restore our communities.
The National Youth Agency, Regional Youth Work Units, and UK Youth have collaborated to publish support and guidance as part of a coordinated response. The resources are for youth workers and allied professionals with a focus on disinformation, tackling hate, and signposting to advice and support on trauma, safeguarding and lock down procedures. You can access these resources here.
They’re also hosting a series of ‘Space to Connect’ sessions for youth workers and allied professionals to come together to reflect, share concerns and seek support. You can register for the sessions you’d like to attend here.
To our Key Partners, if any KEY+ events, projects or activities need to be rescheduled then we will work with you to make it happen. We're on hand to help so please reach out.
Together, we remain committed to supporting our communities and nurturing a society where everyone can thrive without fear of discrimination or violence.
