KEY+ Group: Spice up Your Life
A group of young people in Newcastle joined forces at their local NE Youth youth club to take on the KEY+ Challenge. Naming themselves Spice Up Your Life after a lip sync battle at school, the group were excited to hit the ground running with KEY+.
For their Stage 1 project, Spice Up Your Life got to grips with challenge. They wanted to deliver a project that helped them to work together as a team and experience something new. The group worked together and decided to go bowling, visit a cat café and enjoy a meal in Nando’s for their first KEY+ activity. Building on this further, they planned a day trip away complete with train journeys and activities in York.
After two successful stages it was time for Spice Up Your Life to create youth impact at Stage 3. It was here where they decided to deliver an event to remember for local families and children struggling in the cost-of-living crisis. The group decided they wanted to give back and do something kind and after many ideas, they settled running a low-cost or optional donation community fun day.
Spice Up Your Life got creative and thought of activities and stalls to invite on the day. They searched for information online and developed a comprehensive budget for things they’d need on the day. Their plans included a hook-a-duck stall, a guess the teddy table and a ton of free activities such as cycle smoothies, bouncy castles, a mechanical bull, sand art and pebble art. The young people worked really hard to pull their plans together and so it was no surprise that they got a big YES at panel!
The group had to pull together to get everything in order for the day including promoting the event, securing stall holders and recruiting extra helping hands on the day. The event was a big success with over 100 children and families attending on the day. To make an even bigger impact, Spice Up Your Life raised an amazing £700 on the day which they’ll be using to host a community trip.
