Happy International Volunteers Day!

Today, we're celebrating the incredible volunteers who give their time, expertise, and energy to support young people doing KEY+. Our volunteers play a pivotal role in shaping the future of young people by sitting on panels to determine which projects can move forward. They guide, challenge, and inspire young people as they ask questions that fosters skills-building identifies personal growth.

We couldn't do this work without them and would like to say a massive thank you to all our volunteers for being part of our community and empowering the next generation of leaders!

Meet one of our amazing volunteers, Abbie.

Abbie began volunteering with The Key two years when she signed up to become a Volunteer Panel Member.

The role of a Volunteer Panel Member (VPM) is a highly flexible and rewarding opportunity, perfect for those with busy schedules who still want to make a meaningful impact. As a VPM, you’ll be part of a panel that listens to young people pitch their project ideas, discuss their progress, and reflect on how they’ve developed important skills along the way. The role involves asking thoughtful questions, providing constructive feedback, and evaluating whether the project meets the necessary criteria to move forward.

Being a VPM is an excellent way to support the growth and development of young individuals.

Hear about how Abbie has been enjoying her volunteer time so far…

“I chose to volunteer as a panel member to help young people increase their skill set that will help them in their adult lives. Through panels the young people can build their confidence, presentation, communication and team work skills.”

“Going to the events that young people have organised through the KEY+ Challenge and seeing the positive impact this has on the community. I love watching the young people grow in confidence as they progress through the stages of the KEY+ Challenge.”

“It helps young people to develop their skills needed to be successful in their future. It is such a privilege to play a small role in helping young people increase their key skills.”

“Spice Up Your Life in Throckley. As part of the pitch the young people challenged us to axe throwing – we each had three axes, and we got as many questions at the end of the pitch as stuck to the board.”

Are you passionate about inspiring belief in young people? Then why not volunteer with The Key and help us on our mission.

We know that balancing volunteering with work and personal commitments can be challenging, but the role of Volunteer Panel Member offers a variety of flexible opportunities that can fit into even the busiest of schedules.

Sign up today and find out how you can make an impact!
