Newcastle is full of communities and organisations already delivering amazing impact with young people every day. From youth groups and schools to arts organisations, charities, and local services – there’s a shared belief that young people deserve to be heard, supported and empowered to make change where they live.

Now, Newcastle is beginning an exciting journey to become a City of Social Action – and we’d love you to be part of it.

What does this mean? It means we’re building a cross-sector network where organisations can come together to champion youth voice, participation and youth-led action across the city. It’s a chance to collaborate, share practice, learn from each other and make sure that young people, their voices and their ideas are at the heart of regional decisions.

In collaboration with the #iWill movement, we’re hosting two sessions this March that are open to organisations, professionals and practitioners who are interested in finding out more and potentially getting involved!

This one-hour online session is designed for organisations interested in shaping a collaborative City of Social Action. It’s an opportunity to hear more about what this work could look like and how you might be a part of it.

This will take place online (Zoom) at 4-5pm on the 4th of March.

During the session you’ll explore:

  • What it means for Newcastle to become a City of Social Action
  • How a Community of Practice can support shared learning, collaboration and practical change
  • The role organisations can play in strengthening youth voice locally
  • Early ideas for what the Newcastle network could look like
  • Space to shape priorities and ask questions

Whether you're in education, the arts, health, youth work, local government, community development or any related field—your perspective is vital.

This session marks the launch of Newcastle’s Community of Practice, a network bringing organisations together to strengthen youth voice and support youth-led change.

At this in-person event you’ll have the chance to:

  • Be inspired by local young people leading the session
  • Explore how we can nurture a citywide approach to supporting young people
  • Share ideas, challenges and examples of emerging practice
  • Connect with other Newcastle organisations committed to youth social action
  • Help define shared goals and priorities for the new Community of Practice

Whether you’re working with young people, are involved in regional decision-making or simply want to play your part – your experience and perspective will help shape what this network becomes.

Join us at Maybrook House, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 5JE from 2-4pm. Register here: Newcastle Community of Practice Network.

Why it matters:

A thriving city of social action doesn’t happen by accident – it grows when organisations work together, share learning, lift young voices and build connections that make a real difference.

These sessions are an open invitation to explore how we can do that here in Newcastle.

Come along, share your ideas and help shape the next chapter.
