Azra's Work Experience at The Key

We're so excited to share this blog from Azra, who spent last week with us on work experience! Azra has already completed all three stages of the KEY+ Challenge, showing incredible creativity, determination, and teamwork throughout. Read about her thoughts and experiences during her week at The Key!

"Before coming in, I was very nervous about going into work life and if I would be able to help. However, as soon as I came in everyone in the office greeted me with a smile and a warm welcome and at that point my nerves started to go away. The office was a great place with a cosy atmosphere that felt comfortable. I never felt like an outsider, with the team always involving me with something to do but not with lots of workload that put pressure on me. Also, they gave me introductions that would prepare me for the week.

Throughout the week, I did all kinds of work ranging from research to more practical work. My first job was researching about an upcoming event and finding out about local printers; I wrote some emails to find out more information. I then went on to do some research about a different skills and different ways that The Key may assess the key skills in projects. I attended my first ever panel and I was a bit nervous but thanks to the team, I think I did good. I also went to a meeting where I got to express what I thought and learn what an actual work meeting was like.  I went on to present my research to the team and since I got to know everyone, I wasn't very worried about it, and it didn't feel daunting. Finally on my last day, I did some marketing around The Key and made an Instagram post, which I thought would be complicated but the team again made it very easy."

"My experience was amazing because I got to learn about different ways of work which gave me an idea of what kind of work I may enjoy further in life. Before, work life was quite varied in my thoughts but after this, I got a feel to what it may be like in the future in an office setting. Thanks to The Key I got to observe and learn; I got to learn skills like design, present and research.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time at The Key and hopefully The Key also found it useful too."

At The Key, we're committed to supporting the growth and development of young people - not just through our programmes, but through real experiences that build confidence and open doors. It was a pleasure to have Azra with us, and we're so proud to have played a part in her journey. We can't wait to see what she does next!
