Wilfies Warriors

Five young women from South Tyneside took on the KEY+ Challenge to help prepare young people going into a foster placement.

Focussing on young people aged 9-15, the inspirational and caring group decided to deliver a KEY+ project that saw them create and distribute care packs for young people moving into foster care.

The group worked with South Tyneside Children Services to get advice and search for information about what items would help young people’s transition into foster care easier and after their initial research, they pulled together a budget for all the items they’d need. They selected notebooks, toothbrushes, shampoo, face masks, chocolate and sanitary towels as just some of their included items to help give the young people some treats and essentials.

The young women were delighted to get the yes at panel and be able to distribute their care packs. Their packs went down really well by Children Services who made sure they were given out to young people in need entering the care system.

The Wilfies Warriors developed many skills as they delivered their KEY+ project including being able to deal with people in power and authority as they collaborated with South Tyneside Children Services to distribute their care packs. The group also learned to cope with stress and tension whilst delivering their project around a busy schedule.
